FreeShare Compatibility Issues
| Please note that if you are running a FreeShare Server, the FS Server has a variety of new options available in the User Accounts area which are not available in older Hotline server software. In order to see and toggle these new options, you must be using the FreeShare Client. You may not even be able to see them if you are using another client such as Pitbull, Frogblast, or even an older official Hotline client. Two options you will want to pay attention to in particular are: Can Download Without Chatting Can Download Without Posting If either, or both, of these are not enabled, your users will not be able to download files on your server until they have performed the required task. Please set these two options according to how you intend to run your FreeShare Server. To avoid any unnecessary problems, frustrations and headaches, we encourage you to always use the very latest version of the FreeShare Client with the very latest version of the FreeShare Server. This is because, sometimes, when certain changes are made to the FreeShare Server code, changes must likewise be made to the FreeShare Client as well. If you are not using the latest version of the FreeShare Client, you may not be able to take advantage of the improvements and enhancements which have been made to the FreeShare Server. You should also encourage your users to likewise use the very latest version of the FreeShare Client when they visit your server for the very same reasons; assuming, of course, that they are Mac users. Another good reason to encourage this practice, is because only FreeShare Client users can actually see FreeShare User Icons. We chose this route in order to preserve most old Hotline User Icons, which some people may be accustomed to using. However, true Macintosh users will think different! Let's get those old Hotline users out of the box, and into using some new User Icons! |
