God Is In Control
By Chica4Jesus
God desires to be in control of our lives--this is something
which we all need to constantly be reminded of day by day.
What we need to do, is to simply "let God take the driver's
seat", or "sit at the potter's wheel", so to speak, and let
Him take control of our lives. This is hard to do, but if we
ask God to help us to allow Him to take control of our
lives, believe me, He will.
There are several reasons why we don't want to give God
control of our lives at times; a big reason is because we
don't trust Him like we should. Maybe something bad has
happened in our life, causing us to doubt that God knows
what He is doing when He controls our life.
"Well, if God is in control of my life, then why does He
allow bad things to happen to me?" you may be asking. One of
the reasons why bad things happen to us, is because God
gives us the free will to choose between good and evil, and
most of us choose evil, because we are lowly sinners. God
intervenes at times, however, only when it is definitely
necessary. The point is, we CANNOT allow bad things to
discourage us from trusting in God. He knows what is best
for us, as this verse tells us:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them
that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose." (Romans 8:28)
God will do whatever is necessary in order to prove to us
that He knows what He is doing when He takes control of our
lives. If we allow Him to do this, if we trust in Him and
commit our ways to Him, we will have peace in our hearts, as
these verses from the Old Testament show:
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed
on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3)
Can you think of any other reasons why we would not let God
take control of our lives? I sure can: We are simply being
stubborn and proud. Our stubbornness and pride are caused by
sin, and this causes us to refuse to let God take control of
our lives. What we are basically saying is, "I don't need,
or want, God, controlling my life. I want to do things MY
way." We think we can do things ourselves, when we can't.
How can we control our lives, when we are not omnipotent
("all-powerful") like God is? Trying to control our lives on
our own would be impossible. Consider these two verses:
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your
thoughts." (Isaiah 55:9)
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit
before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)
The first verse tells us that God's ways, intentions, and
thoughts, are much higher than our own. He can see, know,
and understand things long before we can, and even when we
can't, and He can make His decisions accordingly. The second
verse explains that when we do not allow God to take control
of our lives, because of our stubbornness and pride, we may
suffer a very serious downfall. Somehow, God will eventually
get our attention; but by then, we may be awfully sorry;
for as the Bible also says:
"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living
God." (Hebrews 10:31)
Do you know what you are doing when you become a Christian?
You are forsaking your own ways, and allowing God to take
COMPLETE control of your life--with no exceptions whatsoever.
As the Apostle Paul wrote:
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And
be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
(Romans 12:1-2)
But that isn't as easy as you think; it may take you months,
maybe even years, to let God take control. When He DOES take
control, changes don't happen overnight! Just as it may take
you months, or years, to let God take control of your life,
it might take Him the same amount of time, or longer, to
make you just the way He wants you to be. Don't try to rush
it; let God mold and make you the way He intended for you to
be--a kind and loving Christian. Let the Creator do the
creating. Consider this verse:
"But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and
thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand."
(Isaiah 64:8)
"Lord, please help me to allow You to take control of my
life, so that You can mold and make me just the way You
intended for me to be. Help me to not resist Your Hand upon
my life." Is this your prayer, my friend? I hope so. You
will be full of joy, and at peace, once you have allowed God
to do with you as He will. Won't you let Him do it today?
